Born in Lothal, Gujarat, Shah is a prominent sculptor of India.  Shah is an art graduate from Sir J.J. School of Art. He also studied painting at M.S. University in Baroda.  To understand and learn European modernism he spent two years in Paris under S.W. Hayter and Krishna Reddy.

Shah is a versatile artist and he experiment across many forms and mediums such as making burnt paper collages, architectural murals, sculptures, and drawings. His self-designed tools and very innovative techniques help him to get an edge in his preferred style of work.

He has executed many monumental murals in cement, bricks, and concrete. His self-designed tools and instruments helped him carve the shapes and mold in his works freely.

He is one of the members of Group 1890, a short-lived artists’ group founded by J. Swaminathan. In 1966, he received a scholarship from the French government, Lalit Kala Akademi’s National Award in 1956 and 1962, Sahitya Kala Parishad award in 1988, and Kalidas Samman in 2003. 

He lives and works in Jaipur.
