Painters paint what they feel and the same is true for Vikash Kalra, his paintings are the depiction of his feeling and expression. He does not believe in perfection and his unorthodox paintings show that his style of painting is completely new. The abstract landscapes, nudes, overly sexualized depiction of the women and men and the intensity of the colors in his paintings is unique. It will be a dishonor to say that his paintings are inspired by the Picasso because any amount of art that is inspired by the other will be ultimately a copy in other forms. There are huge debates that the depiction of the arts as an expression is not bounded only in a single category; an artist can express his/her feelings with any style of painting and the same is true for the Vikash Kalra.
Childish curiosity in his mind bends the reality easily
Despite his birth in the Indian subcontinent, his painting styles are not influenced by the eastern style of art. Most of his paintings are abstract and western-styled. His free mind runs from one painting to another without establishing any kind of connection, the portraits he draws are purely imaginary without any connection to the real world. The childish curiosity in his mind bends reality very easily which can be done only by a prodigy.
Looking at the landscapes we try to understand the aim of the artist but we fall into our intuition
If we talk about the particular style that he follows in his work then it is more abstract and expressionism. There are many paintings of Mr. Kalra which are crafted as abstract landscapes which offer a sense of peace of mind to the viewers, while looking at the landscapes we try to understand the aim of the artist but we fall into our intuition and ultimately we start following Mr. Kalra vision without our knowledge. We do not only get a sense of peace and joy in his landscapes but due to his great versatility, we find many landscapes fill with guilt and humor at the same time. The unique ways of the depictions of feelings in his paintings expand the reality and surroundings of the viewer.
The portraits are extremely expressive and you will get a burst of emotions in your mind while watching them. The depictions of the fear in the paintings spear the heart of the viewer, joyful faces spark the spirit of the viewer and you will find that the emotion in the eyes of the portraits is very convincing and possessive at the same time.
Vikash Kalra is a self-taught artist and writer based in New Delhi whose work has been exhibited across India and is held in several private and corporate collections.
