The company of a muse and an artist is no exception. This is something discussed in the meantime but does that make it compulsory for the artist to have a muse? Well, there can be a need from the person to person but it would be a little too much to say that it is absolutely compulsory for an artist to have a muse. It is like a man should always have a mustache. It only depends upon the perspective of the artist.
There are many artists who prefer to have a mistress and according to believe it helps them to harness their curiosity. There were mistresses of Picasso and Souza too but is it really a needy concept for all artists? In the case of the work of Vikash Kalra, it doesn’t seem to be a good idea for me. There is some kind of exception where it does need some arousal and exotic experience for the artist but that doesn’t mean that he needs some mistress and in some cases, mistress is the muses.
Changes over the century
There are some changes over the century bringing differences in the characteristics of the artist and in the modern time 21st-century art. At present time, it is a completely different idea to have an external source for inspiration. Arousing experienced have been changed, with a present scenario we cannot define what arousal is and what doesn’t. Art is having value due to its reliving stimulation and making art is some serious emotional adventure. While it is necessary for the artist to enjoy the art but it doesn’t need to be so attracted and attached to the art that the artist needs to have an external source to get out from that attraction.
According to the artist Vikash Kalra, if we look upon the present scene, it is of utmost importance for the artist to focus on the interior emotions and throwing them out on the canvas than focus on some external source for the inspiration. It is hatred, love, attractions, happiness, and depression that make an artist more inspired.
Imagination and expression
Imagination and expression is a completely different topic. Expression is the result of both experience and imagination but the image may or may not depends upon the experience. In Vikash’s work, it is imagination that holds a significant value. If you ask why there is imagination is having more value than experience and expression? Then the answer is that the imagination of an artist is completely variable and it doesn’t require any kind of experience. According to Vikash Kalra, you do not need to be a terrorist to show the terrorizing painting or you would not need to be a brat to create a funky painting. In the same way, you do not need a mistress for your work if you want to show arousal or emotions beyond your understanding.
The expression can be created from imagination and it is completely fine for the artist in the modern world to not create any kind of chaos in their happily married life for the sake of canvas. Peaceful artists with a good understanding of art can create some of the most masterful paintings and it is indeed possible for any artist to have any arousal paintings without being a dick.
So what are the significant values does an art contain if the artist is not experiencing the real emotions of arousal or erotic behavior?
If we make a note of Vikash Kalra’s works we understand the meaning of imaginational value over expressionism. His works completely changed the values with the sear emotions and imagination. The act of arousal in work is something very complicated and it can be simply understood by the Vikash nude paintings. There is a necessity for the artists to have an act of high imagination to convey the arousal or any kind of emotions on canvas.
Vikash Kalra is a self-taught artist and writer based in New Delhi whose work has been exhibited across India and is held in several private and corporate collections.
