She was a prolific Indian artist who primarily worked in oil paintings and was known for depicting elongated graceful pensive rural women. Her paintings are dominated by a single color theme. Some of her paintings are collected in the National Gallery of Modern Art, India.
She was deeply inspired by the works of Amrita Shergill. Prabha started her artistic career when not too many women were on the horizon of Indian Art. Women were the main subjects of her works and with time she started exploring their emotions and oppression.
When B. Prabha was still an amateur, her works were acquired by Air India. Her paintings were used on the menu cards and they were displayed at the Air India booking office in London. In her initial years in art, she moved from modern abstract to decorative figuration.
Over the years she held more the 50 exhibitions in India and abroad.
Her works have been included in exhibitions such as “winter moderns” at Aicon Gallery, New York; “Pot Purr” at Gallery Beyond, Mumbai.
Vikash Kalra is a self-taught artist and writer based in New Delhi whose work has been exhibited across India and is held in several private and corporate collections.
