Q-1 – Vikash, what are the meanings of work in the world of
painting?
Painting is nothing but research and experiment for me. Took a brush in hand and the painting was done on canvas, it does not happen, man… Emotions have to be gathered before painting, and they come from everywhere; from the sky, from the ground, from small pieces of paper, passing things, from the spider’s web, from the sorrows, from broken pottery. I believe that if I am getting emotions for painting from something, then why I should discriminate… we should just take all the good things out of it.
Q-2- You have done a lot of work, there are lots of exhibitions too. As a Painter who do you believe in your real viewers?
As a painter in my eyes, my viewers are those who appreciate my work and do not try to impose their views on me. Do not try to put their influence on my work, and my work should be received as it is, because … I feel that they know that painting is a process that is very important to understand.
Q-3- In your eyes when does an artist get fulfillment or full satisfaction…….. Please explain a little bit?
See, at my sight, the artist meets the complete satisfaction or fulfillment at many stages, it is a great secret … Like if he is walking in the jungle, even then he can get satisfaction or he is reading a book of children It can still be found … It is not necessary to understand what the artist is doing, it matters what he is feeling. It is more important to know if I am making what I am feeling. Like Picasso’s anxiety, the irritation of Souza, the anger of Van Gogh and my emotions mean more, that’s all the real Drama. Everything else is nonsense. If an artist is being repeatedly making the same painting like a photocopy then I do not know about his fulfillment.
Q-4- Mr. Vikash, we came to understand where you get the emotions for painting, but we also want to know where you meet the subjects of your paintings?
Look, in my thoughts, a painting comes from a very far away, you can say that from miles away, sometimes I see them in my dreams, which are also against my will, and it disappears the next day, for this reason, the subjects of my paintings are very different, which are not easily understood by the people because my paintings are not an object, they are the conversations. In my paintings, a line is talking to the other line, which has a different addiction, which cannot be seen in the museums, collectors, and galleries. Those people (collectors) hung paintings in the corners of their houses and see them according to value. But the paintings are not for the corners of the house, they are the seeds if they get good land they can become a big and thick tree.
Q-5- What is the attitude of the people about paintings, and what do you think about the business people?
You are seeing, those who are making art their business, they are liars and creeps, sometimes I feel bad because they are taking advantage of us because of the mistakes made by artist’s weak motives and our stupidity. The best solution in my sight is that the artist should be a dictator. Dictatorship means “true”, truth is very important in your work and ideas. We should not be trapped in the demand-supply game and play gambling with our work. We should make what we think, not what buyers want. Any kind of compromise removes us from our art. The museums have made art a joke. This business is going on without any relationship with art. If you are a good friend then your painting will be selected for the exhibition, and a good true artist just stands on the line.
Q-6- As a painter, how do you define the truth and the lie and how will you serve it to the people?
Picasso has said, “Art is a lie which is the easy way to go to the truth” I would say that the artist should know the technique of realizing the truth of his lies to another person. For example, if I make ahead then I do not necessarily make it like ahead, I have a language to understand and explain art, which you can say as an experiment, not necessarily if I make a girl then, make a tall, handsome girl with beautiful eyes, if I do it will be a photograph, two holes for me are also a beautiful face. And in this lie, the truth is hidden somewhere, in my opinion, it is a simple language – to put art in front of people and explain the truth. There is no place for artificial water in my art.
Q-7- Who do you think is responsible for this fight between true and false?
Look, Sir … For many thousands of years, we have tied ourselves in many perceptions like a mango should look like yellow, lemon is sour, and we look at the art accordingly. But art is not limited to it. I have spoken in this matter… And I do not believe the artist responsible for this battle and neither people. They never got taught how to look at art, especially contemporary art. We are taught to read, write, speak, sing and even draw people, but it is not taught how to look at the painting. Art history is taught but it is not told how to feel it.
According to me, we should watch a painting like a small innocent child, he does not think about how a painting is made, he sees only what is made without any judgment, he just watches the painting with his innocent eyes and enjoying it. As we enjoy snowing on the Himalayas and rainwater. Art should be obtained in the same form as the artist had made that, but we get entangled in the questions of why, how, what and painting got spoiled.
Q-8- So you tell me how can people’s understanding of painting be developed?
People who understand or explain painting are stupid like if I do not know English then what is wrong with it, there is no need to blame anyone. Today we have made so much progress that we can go to the moon, walk under the sea, we find answers to all the questions from Google very easily, but behind any painting, the answers to the questions related to that particular painting are hidden only in that painting. For example, even after 2 thousand years, the painting of Monalisa is still a mystery.
Someone calls her a pregnant woman, so someone says she was the girlfriend of the artist. Nowadays, there is a new thing that is a self-portrait. That is why I say that there is no formula set for the understanding of painting. It is the mind which matters, in painting, 2 + 2, not equal 4, to understand art you have to wear the pajamas of the artist.
More than painting, if you understand the artist then it will be better. If we look at the pictures of horses that Husain Sahib comes to mind. That is why it is very important to understand the journey of the artist and not to fall behind the painting. This can bring awareness among people, if you do not know what kind of circumstances I was going to do my work then what would you think of my work?
Q-9- How do you plan what to paint?
(Laughing), it is very funny; a painting cannot be done by thinking beforehand or deciding. I’m a silly artist, I do not plan a painting, have you ever changed your passage after leaving home? It is just like that to me, painting for me is a surprise gift. I do not know when a gift will open, what will happen in it; maybe people will come to see my painting in a queue or maybe they will not come. It does not matter to me. I am just an artist if who will be in jail even then he will be making paintings in his mind, if I had ever collapsed in my life and came to the wheelchair still I would spend my life looking at my unfinished paintings. My work for me is a bridge between you and my thoughts, now it is your wish that you connect it to a thin line or connect with a thick line or connect with cement. You can say that painting for me is a bad habit, I only know how to paint and nothing else, I do not know where this power comes me…
Q-10- How many difficulties do you face while working on a new subject?
Bringing a new subject is very difficult in our work because we have very few subjects, for thousands of years people have neither changed the shape nor the behavior has changed, the mother’s love is the same, the poor subjects show tattered clothes and empty plates, husbands and wives love the same way, so to show all these things, the same subject has to be used, we can change the object just as if we have seen two lovers in old films when they use two flowers to show love. You must have seen today that an artist is regenerating the other artist’s paintings. Just like artists who mostly take up other artist’s works and present them on the canvas in their own way, for example how many artists have created the last supper, but all of them have changed the objects, like that of the room design, changed food items, changed the position of the people, but they kept same subjects.
Q-11- Beginning and finishing in painting is that much important?
First, we talk about the beginning, I would say that the interest in painting is as long as it is not started, as soon as it starts, the interest got eliminated as soon as he placed a point on the canvas, all your feelings come out and interest ends… Because an artist lives his work, he just does not make it, making a painting on canvas is the last step… Now, talking about finishing work, then finished painting is a dead painting, in the unfinished painting soul lies, as if we say he got finished when anyone dies, the same are the paintings for me. Only unfinished paintings talk to us. It is not that when we sign or paint a painting then the painting got finished, we have just left it to grow, like a tree … which will grow and grows with time, because at the same time something happens that fulfills the process of growing them. Similarly, when the painting becomes obsolete, its brightness increases in color. But it is our job to keep him safe, it is a process of giving and takes…
Q-12- How much do you value original?
Very simple… if I created a circle and she is the world’s most perfect circle for me then I am original because I have made it from the heart. I believe that we can get everything, but we have to create our own personality as if I am writing wrong spelling, then I do not try to fix it, because my expression dies which is opposite to my personality.
My personality is revealed only by mistakes, it means that we should make our own rules ourselves, if I am able to correct those mistakes, then I will be trapped in the rules of the world, but I have nothing to do with them. Those people who fall prey to the rules are only wasting their time and cheating them, according to me, we should make a grammar of our own personality. It is the originality. And the same is in my paintings, I show only the truth in my work, I do not use any tricks, I do not think of any kind of profit, just work with full energy and enthusiasm, and now I have started to know myself as a new movement, the fun comes when the painting talks and it is only possible when we leave the thinking of others and think out of the box, then only one make a great painting Mr. and born as one original painter.
